Live In Oklahoma City (11/15/72)
3. Playing In The Band [30:57]
4. Wharf Rat [10:38]
5. Not Fade Away> [7:47]
6. Goin’ Down The Road Feeling Bad> [7:12]
7. Not Fade Away

The one thing about the selection that disappointed me was no Playing in the Band, and this sure takes care of that! I don't know this show, though. Any thoughts?

EDIT: From the timing, though (19:49), it doesn't look like they filled the gap in The Other One.

Dammit, now I have to listen to that PITB again. Perfect filler material, if you ask me.

The Playing in the Band from 11-15 is excellent and very worthy filler. The real question is whether it's worth $29 for a show that has one less generation than the current circulating source.

I think it makes for a better cd set, and it is a good way to get that Playing out there from a show that they would most likely never put out . This is not one of those "fuck, they butchered a show" deals . But wish they could have got the Big RR Blues (well I ALWAYS like Big RR Blues) , but I mostly think this is a good salvage job of the essentials form that 11/15 show .
Funny , I though the same thing, "great 72 show, but no Playing..."

Glad they included filler of some songs not represented on 11-17! A rare thing for Dave's Picks, and makes this an even better set.

It struck me as odd, though, that Dave picked the Playing from 11-15 rather than 11-18. 11-15's Playing is fine, but really tame compared to the incredible smoking fireball that they played on 11-18 - there's just no comparison. My best guess is it's because 11-15 has better recording quality. Also, the other songs on 11-18 are kind of rough, probably not release-quality (though He's Gone has a great long ending jam).
(Also - this'll relieve some people - Donna doesn't scream when they go back to the last verse on 11-15.)

And judging from the timings, you're right, doesn't look like there's a patch in the Other One - but there is in Jack Straw & Casey Jones. (Probably taken from nearby shows.)

Maybe part of the decision is an ideas to possibly someday do something with the the 11/18 show, and the 11/19 one, at the Hofheinz ? I suspect Dave keeps notes on these sort of things . I suspect you are correct though on the sonic issues, and the other songs being it . And I might guess ending the disc with a NFA combo was more appealing than the Sat. Night that ends the 18th .

I agree about the sound as at least part of the decision to go with 11-15 over 11-18. Even though 11-18's PITB seems like a no-brainer, it's unlikely they were able to do anything about the awful mix. It's just not up to par for an official release IMO, as amazing as the performance is.

PLUS
Please everybody don't sell 11-15 PITB short. It's quite wonderful.

Subject: Playin'
It doesn't get much better than this. I was listening to this while walking, and after 3 minutes of Playin just had to sit down with my head in my hands, close my eyes, and be carried away. This performance is energetic, intricate, and delightful, like a pile of leaves lifted away by a breeze and spinning magically in the air. Jerry is fabulous, the notes simply drip, but everyone else keeps right up. No Donna shrieks, either, only harmonies. The sound quality is, of course, stellar, with excellent clarity and separation.

Thanks.
I'd heard about them, usually when the old-timers get to talkin' and sippin,' but never actually saw one.
Until now that is!

I emailed david yesterday about what they did for patches. Hopefully he will get back to me.

I agree with LIA that I wish the 11/18 playin was selected. Either way, I'm very excited to get a fall 72 release.

Now we just need that 1968 release...

I'm really hoping they at least filled the gap with the aud - it's not great quality but to lose any of this performance would be a travesty. After all, they used a pretty crummy aud to fill in the end of Stella Blue from 10/21/78 on RT 1.4, so I don't think that would be unacceptable here.

The 30 Days of Dead from 2011 I think had the Playin'. A lot of the stuff seems to be on future releases. The lower bitrate stuff (Richmond 77, Cap Centre 74, etc) seems to be the stuff they are thinking of putting out.
